Introduction

The blockchain platform formerly known as Fantom has undergone a significant transformation, culminating in a rebranding to Sonic Labs. This strategic move aligns with the launch of their new high-performance EVM solution, which promises to deliver an impressive throughput of 10,000 transactions per second (TPS).

Rebranding to Sonic Labs

As part of its dedication to innovation and growth, Fantom has rebranded itself as Sonic Labs. This rebranding is not merely cosmetic but marks a pivotal shift in the platform’s development trajectory. Michael Kong, the CEO of the former Fantom, unveiled this change, emphasizing that it is in line with the roadmap he shared earlier in March 2024.

New EVM Solution: Sonic

Sonic Labs is set to introduce a groundbreaking EVM solution named Sonic, which will be capable of handling 10,000 TPS with full confirmation times of just one second. This development is expected in the second half of 2024. By offering such high performance, Sonic aims to provide a secure and efficient gateway to Ethereum, enhancing the overall user experience and broadening the scope for decentralized applications (dApps).

Governance and Rewards

The rebranding extends beyond just the name change. Sonic Labs will establish the Sonic Foundation, responsible for network governance and financial oversight. Meanwhile, Sonic Labs will focus on expanding dApp usage, increasing user numbers, and fostering partnerships. Additionally, they plan to launch an extensive reward program, although specific details are yet to be disclosed.

Introduction of Native Token S

An integral part of this rebranding includes the introduction of a native token, S, which will replace the existing FTM token. Distribution plans for the S token include airdrops, reward programs, and staking opportunities, ensuring a seamless transition for existing users.

Continued Support for Opera Network

Despite these changes, Sonic Labs reassures its community that support for the existing Opera network will continue. This ensures that ongoing projects and dApps on the Opera network remain unaffected and can benefit from the new advancements brought by Sonic Labs.
The rebranding of Fantom to Sonic Labs and the introduction of a high-performance EVM solution underscore the platform’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the blockchain space. By enhancing transaction speeds and ensuring robust governance, Sonic Labs is poised to make significant strides in the industry, benefiting both developers and users alike.
