ZKX Team Accused of Rug Pull by Crypto Community

3 Min Read Tags:

The crypto community is in uproar over allegations that the ZKX project team executed a rug pull, leaving investors in dismay.

  • Founder Eduard Jubany Toh announced the project’s closure and refund to TGE participants.
  • Critics, including ZachXBT, accuse the team of misleading investors shortly before shutting down.
  • Significant funds raised between 2021 and 2024 were spent on operational costs.
  • All participant funds have been returned, but the project faces severe scrutiny.

Project Closure and Refund Announcement

On July 30, 2024, Eduard Jubany Toh, founder of the ZKX project, announced its closure and the return of funds to participants of their Token Generation Event (TGE). This decision, attributed to high expenditures and low token demand, has sparked significant controversy within the crypto community.

Accusations of Misleading Investors

Prominent crypto expert ZachXBT has openly criticized the ZKX development team, accusing them of executing a rug pull. He pointed out that the team announced a $7.6 million investment round and TGE in June 2024, just over a month before the project’s closure. According to ZachXBT, the developers might have been aware of the project’s impending failure, thereby misleading investors who purchased tokens during the TGE.

Founder’s Defense

Eduard Jubany Toh responded to the accusations by explaining that the funds were raised between 2021 and 2024, supporting a team of 30 people dedicated to building a blockchain for scaling perpetual contracts. He emphasized that all user funds from the TGE were returned, with over 80% already withdrawn from the protocol, and the founders did not sell any of their tokens.

Community and Technical Challenges

The ZKX team faced immense pressure from the crypto community, including hacking attempts and other technical challenges. Despite these difficulties, Toh stated that operational costs, particularly for wallet implementation, Layer 2 decentralized exchange, and public bridging, were significantly higher than anticipated. He also highlighted that expenses on market makers and the decentralized exchange exceeded income by five to seven times.

Market Response and Token Performance

The ZKX token (ZKX) was listed on several major centralized exchanges on July 19, 2024, starting at $0.6. However, the token’s value plummeted by 75% over the past week, with a 23% drop in just 24 hours, exacerbating investor concerns and dissatisfaction.

Final Notes

Eduard Jubany Toh reiterated that all funds from the TGE were returned to their rightful owners, with 95% withdrawn from the protocol. Despite efforts to revive the project through expansion, the financial requirements were deemed too high, leading to the ultimate decision to shut down the project.
The closure of ZKX serves as a critical reminder of the volatility and risks inherent in the cryptocurrency market. Investors and developers alike must exercise due diligence and maintain transparency to foster trust and sustainability in the evolving digital asset landscape.
