Peter Schiff: For Bitcoin’s Collapse, Everything is Ready

Peter Schiff, President of Euro Pacific Capital and a known critic of Bitcoin, has issued a stark warning about the impending downturn in the cryptocurrency market. Schiff cautions that Bitcoin is on the brink of a significant recession, predicting dire consequences if it drops below the $15,000 mark.

Stock Market Analysis and Federal Reserve’s Role

Schiff began by analyzing the stock market, noting that indices like S&P 500 and NASDAQ hit multi-week lows on July 24, 2024, driven by declines in Tesla and Alphabet shares. He also pointed out the rise in the Japanese Yen and Swiss Franc, currencies typically favored during economic and political instability.
According to Schiff, “If the Federal Reserve does not reduce interest rates soon, the recession will commence with a prolonged stock market decline.” In June 2024, U.S. senators urged Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to lower interest rates, warning that tightening policies could trigger a recession.

Gold, Silver, and Bitcoin Price Movements

Gold and silver prices have also taken a hit, dropping approximately 2% in the past 24 hours. Schiff believes that the precious metals market is bracing for a “hard landing.” Meanwhile, Bitcoin’s price corrected to $63,800, and Ethereum plummeted by 8%, despite the official launch of spot Ethereum-ETF trading in the U.S.
Schiff foresees a Bitcoin crash imminently, coinciding with the Nashville Bitcoin Conference in 2024. He even conducted a poll among his followers on X (formerly Twitter), simulating a scenario where Bitcoin falls 80% from its current price, trading below $15,000.

Long-term Bitcoin Holders’ Resilience

The poll results revealed that 89% of Schiff’s followers would not sell their Bitcoin even in the event of a significant price drop. “89% of hodlers remain steadfast. If this happens in 2025, Bitcoin’s eight-year track record will be dreadful. It would indeed become one of the worst assets globally,” Schiff remarked.
One user countered, arguing that in the long run, Bitcoin will surpass gold. They noted that compared to gold, Bitcoin is only 15 years old and has a promising future ahead.

Schiff’s Historical Criticism of Bitcoin

Peter Schiff has consistently criticized Bitcoin, advocating investment in other assets. In November 2023, he predicted a Bitcoin crash before the launch of spot ETFs, labeling it a “pyramid scheme” and fraud. However, in May 2024, the crypto-skeptic conceded that Bitcoin could reach $1 million and beyond under specific conditions.
In summary, Schiff’s latest warnings underscore the volatility and risks associated with Bitcoin and the broader cryptocurrency market. His analysis highlights the critical role of the Federal Reserve’s policies in shaping economic stability and market performance. As the crypto community braces for potential turbulence, the debate over Bitcoin’s long-term viability continues.
