Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has approved the world’s first secondary trading of tokenized public investment funds on a licensed virtual asset platform. PantherTrade made the first two products available on October 15, 2026, giving retail and professional investors round-the-clock access to fund units, including on weekends.
The approval covers the ChinaAMC HKD Digital Money Market Fund and the ChinaAMC USD Digital Money Market Fund from China Asset Management, also known as ChinaAMC. The funds are denominated in Hong Kong dollars and U.S. dollars, respectively.
According to PantherTrade’s official announcement, the licensed crypto platform offers the products through the CAMFF-HKD and CUMFU-USD trading pairs.
Secondary trading and ownership records
The tokens represent digital interests in the respective funds, while the official ownership records remain off-chain. Secondary trading allows investors to buy and sell existing units with other market participants instead of limiting transactions to those conducted directly with the asset manager.
The SFC introduced a regulatory framework for such activity in April 2026. The framework sets requirements covering fair pricing, liquidity, disclosure and investor protection.
The regulator said 24/7 access to tokenized instruments will accelerate settlement and improve capital mobility. Investors will be able to sell assets outside standard trading hours and use the proceeds in other transactions.
SFC plans initial focus on money market funds
Eliza Ng Ka-lee, executive director of the SFC’s investment products division, called the launch an important milestone in the development of Hong Kong’s digital asset market. She said round-the-clock trading will be a key element of the emerging tokenization infrastructure.
The regulator will initially focus on money market funds. It will consider expanding the range of available products based on trading results and market conditions.
Tokenized asset market expands
The tokenized real-world asset sector has continued to grow. According to RWA.xyz, its market capitalization increased by about $300 million from early October 2026.
Franklin Templeton previously launched a tokenized money market fund in Hong Kong using the Benji Technology platform.
