BNB Chain plans to build a separate Layer 1 network that will run alongside BNB Smart Chain, according to an October 22, 2026, update to the project’s official documentation cited by X user KuiGas. The network will complement rather than replace BSC and will prioritize low-latency transactions for uses including onchain trading, order books and payments.

KuiGas reported that the new network does not yet have a name. It will interact with BSC through a native cross-chain bridge, while BSC will continue supporting its existing decentralized finance ecosystem and applications.

Former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, known as CZ, commented on the initiative: “Multiple networks, one coin.”

Network to prioritize transaction speed

According to KuiGas, the planned L1 will target a block time of about 200 milliseconds, transaction pre-confirmation in roughly 20 milliseconds and transaction ordering in less than one second. The stated performance targets are intended for applications where speed and low latency are important, including onchain trading, order books and payments.

BNB Chain does not plan to issue a separate token for the network. As on BSC, BNB will be used to pay fees and participate in staking and governance.

KuiGas said developing a separate high-performance network could help BNB Chain strengthen its position in the onchain financial infrastructure market. He cited the growing popularity of decentralized perpetuals exchanges, or perp DEXs, as one possible reason for the initiative.

Testnet planned by the end of 2026

According to KuiGas, an internal test network with several validators is already operating, but neither the public testnet nor the mainnet has launched.

The current plan calls for the public testnet to launch by the end of 2026, followed by the mainnet in early 2027.

BNB Chain recently burned 1.65 million BNB worth about $1.2 billion.
