- Blur will shut down its blur.io frontend on Nov. 12, 2026, while keeping its marketplace protocol operational on-chain.
- Users must close active loans taken out through Blend by the deadline or risk default.
- BLUR fell from $0.018 to $0.012 following the announcement.
NFT marketplace Blur said in an Oct. 12 announcement that it will take its blur.io frontend offline on Nov. 12, 2026, while leaving the marketplace protocol operational on-chain. The closure will remove the main portal for connecting wallets, trading NFTs and taking out Blend loans, and Blur told borrowers to close active loans by the deadline to avoid a potential default.
Marketplace contracts will remain operational
Blur said the deprecation applies only to the frontend. The project’s smart contracts will continue to operate on the Ethereum network, while the BLUR token will continue to control the protocol’s fee switch.
The team launched Blend with support from Paradigm in May 2023. The protocol allowed users to take out loans backed by NFTs.
Blur did not disclose why it decided to close the web interface. The source article said the decision was likely connected to a broader decline in NFT-sector activity, while noting the shutdown of the Blast and Abstract layer-2 networks. Blur founder Pacman created Blast, while the team behind the Pudgy Penguins NFT project launched Abstract.
BLUR price and trading volume fall
BLUR dropped from $0.018 to $0.012 following the announcement, according to the price cited at the time of writing. An hourly BLUR/USDT chart was available through TradingView for the Binance market.
Blur’s NFT trading volume has also fallen sharply, according to Token Terminal. Monthly volume reached a peak of $1.42 billion in March 2023 but stood at $19.15 million in September 2026.
Many online commentators reacted positively to the planned frontend shutdown. Blur has faced criticism over its optional royalty system for creators, trading incentives and fee undercutting, practices previously covered in the press.
