Wasabi Secures $3 Million in Funding
In a significant development for the cryptocurrency trading landscape, Wasabi has successfully raised $3 million in a seed funding round led by Electric Capital. The platform, which specializes in trading futures on memecoins and NFTs, attracted investments from notable entities including Alliance, Memeland, Spencer Ventures, and other private investors.
Expansion Plans and Team Growth
Co-founder Eren Derman revealed that the fundraising efforts began in early January 2024 and concluded by the end of February. While he refrained from commenting on the round’s structure and the project’s valuation, Derman did share plans to use the new capital to expand the Wasabi team from six to ten members. The hiring focus will be on two engineers, a backend developer, and a Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Platform Activity and Performance
Wasabi’s platform is currently accessible on both Ethereum and Blast. Interestingly, user activity is predominantly higher on Blast, where traders provide liquidity for projects like Pacmoon, Blastopians, and Juice Finance. The platform boasts over 18,000 active traders who have collectively generated a trading volume exceeding $500 million since January.
Key Metrics and Market Impact
According to DeFiLlama, the Total Value Locked (TVL) on Wasabi has surpassed $109 million. This substantial figure underscores Wasabi’s growing influence in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. The platform’s success and the recent influx of capital highlight its potential to shape the future of crypto trading, particularly in niche markets like memecoins and NFTs.
Wasabi’s ability to attract substantial investments and expand its team signifies a promising future. As the platform continues to grow and innovate, its impact on the crypto market is likely to be profound, further driving the adoption and evolution of decentralized trading solutions.
