  • Senator Cynthia Lummis urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act during its current session, warning that the next real opportunity may not come until 2030.
  • A procedural vote to end debate and advance the crypto market structure bill is scheduled for September 15, 2026.
  • The measure needs at least 60 votes to advance in the Senate.

Senator Cynthia Lummis on September 6, 2026, urged Congress to complete work on the CLARITY Act during its current session. She warned that otherwise the next real opportunity to pass crypto market structure legislation may not come until 2030, potentially costing years of jobs, investment and tax revenue.

“If the Clarity Act doesn’t pass this Congress, the next real opportunity to bring market structure legislation back up is 2030. That’s years of jobs, investment, and tax revenue we can avoid squandering if we finish this now,” Lummis said in a post on September 6, 2026.

Senate vote scheduled for September 15

The Senate Banking Committee approved the CLARITY Act by a 15-9 vote in May 2026 and sent the bill to the full Senate for consideration.

Supporters initially expected the legislation to advance before Congress’ August recess, but consideration was postponed until after the break.

A procedural vote to end debate and advance the bill is scheduled for September 15. The measure requires at least 60 votes to move forward.

U.S. President Donald Trump has also urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act. At a meeting with crypto industry representatives, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called the September 15 vote a key milestone for the bill.
